Curriculum intent, implementation, and impact
Our students study AQA awards on topics related to computing that help students develop digital, enterprise and employability skills.
At Kickstart we value the importance of computing for all students, for them to have a well-informed understanding of the increasingly digital world that surrounds them. Employers project that the number of careers dependent on computing skills will grow. Many students currently starting out in education today could end up in jobs that do not currently exist.
We also use our computing lessons to teach online safety. We strive to ensure our students know how to protect themselves and others from online harm and risks which may jeopardise their personal information, lead to unsafe communications or even effect their mental health and wellbeing.
At Kickstart Academy our students are timetabled to study computing for one hour per week, so that they are equipped with the necessary skills for the future. During the computing lesson students will learn how to use desktop and laptop models, keyboard buttons, internet access, search engines, social media, online security, offline protection, e-mail use and much more. Students are expected to work at times independently to prepare their folders of evidence.
This course is designed to be accessible to all students, ensuring that everyone can benefit from its content. By completing this course, students will acquire a diverse range of valuable skills, emphasising transferrable skills, preparing students for success in their future careers.
In addition, the digital format of this course is especially impactful for students, who are increasingly familiar with online education. Digital education empowers students by developing their technological proficiency, this not only equips them with critical digital literacy but also helps them navigate and excel in the evolving job market, where tech-savvy and adaptable individuals are in high demand. Through interactive tools and engaging content, students can strengthen problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills—essential for the digital age.
