Engaging learning environment

At the heart of our curriculum

As an academy and across the trust, we appreciate the importance of investing in our campuses to ensure that they are engaging environment for learning, which are safe and nurturing for all our students and staff.

Here at Kickstart, we have a 3-tiered approach to our educational offer for students. Through our induction process we gather as much information as possible, about each student. This allows us to plan a bespoke learning package of support for each student, ensuring that we effectively meet the needs of all learners.

Kickstart Engage and Kickstart Emerge

‘Kickstart Engage’ and ‘Kickstart Emerge’ programmes are learning packages that will be offered as a hybrid approach within the home, at a community venue and within Kickstart Settings.

To access the online learning programmes, students will be leased an academy laptop; this will allow students to complete online learning in preparation for GCSE and functional skills qualifications.

We have a dedicated team of staff that support the wellbeing of our students. Our IN-Reach mentor will visit the student’s home each week and will also facilitate educational trips for these students.

We also have a family liaison officer who supports students and families to overcome any barriers to learning. If a student does not engage with their programme, safe and well check visits will still be completed.

Kickstart Empower

‘Kickstart Empower’ is a nurturing SEMH base, based in Donnington, with 3 supportive members of staff, including a lead teacher, higher level teaching assistant and learning mentor. This small setting offers a safe secure classroom, with IT facilities. There is also a small onsite kitchenette area which is used to deliver our home cooking qualification and support our preparation to adulthood offer. There are lots of opportunities for reward activities and sporting activities throughout the week.

Kickstart Endeavor

‘Kickstart Endeavor’ is warm and welcoming learning environment based in Priorslee. We have 5 classrooms, a small IT suite, a small gym area, an intervention room / library, and an outside courtyard. Our home cooking lessons are delivered at an offsite facility. We have a team of teaching staff who deliver lessons in their specialist subject. Each class is also supported by a Teaching Assistant to further facilitate learning.

We offer support to the students and their wider family to ensure that together we overcome barriers to learning. Within our foyer area we have a food bank and swap shop of clothing and shoes. These are kindly donated by staff within our academy and the LCT Trust. We understand that some of our families may need additional support from time to time.

Students who are entitled to a Free Meal School meal will have lunch provided. We also provide a free breakfast to students who wish to arrive before the start of the day, a snack at breaktime and water and throughout the day.

Across all Kickstart pathways we provide a high standard of pastoral care and safeguarding. All students also have access to our SENDCo to support any additional needs. We offer a careers programme and work closely with career agencies who support students to explore options and make decisions regarding post-16 pathways.
